About Us

At Masindi Creations, we create fine Jewellery all of which is hand made and totally unique and can not be purchased elsewhere.

We work with almost any medium that comes to hand, be it porcelain, Precious metal Clay(PMC) and sterling silver, glass (Dichroic), semi-precious stones and beads, polymere clay or silver plate.. In fact anything that can be fashioned into jewellery.

What is Dichroic Glass ?

Developed by the space industry, Dichroic is a coating ( Quartz Crystal and Metal Oxides) applied to thin fusible glass. The coating can vary from rich rainbow effects to flat colours. When fired to a high temperature 800c, the coating is not disturbed and is as beautiful as ever.

Its main characteristic is that it transmits colour differently depending on the angle of view which makes it ideal for use in jewellery.

The Dichroic is cut and shaped then kiln fused. When cooled over a 12 to 14 hour period the pieces are ground and re-fired to a high shine. Sterling silver findings are then added to the fired and polished piece.

What is Precious Metal Clay - PMC ?

Metal clay was developed in Japan in the early 1990s by Mitsubushi Materials Corporation.

PMC is a relative new material, it consists of microscopic precious metal particles suspended in a mix of an organic binder and water.

In its unfired form, metal clay is soft; you can manipulate it just like other clays. This clay can be stamped, rolled and shaped into jewellery.

Once the metal clay object is fired, the organic binder and water burn away, the product emerges as fine silver (.999) or gold (22k - 24k).

The metal pieces can then be finished using traditional metalworking techniques.
